Semiconductor Surface with Strain Control We have succeeded in obtaining a strain distribution controlled Si(001) substrate by forming silicon oxide inclusions below the surface, for the first time. Strained epitaxial growth of Ge on Si(001) produces three dimensional islands whose location and size distribution are well-controlled.
