Silicon Single-Electron Inverter

The single-electron transistor, which operates by transferring electrons just one by one, is a promising element for future extremely large-scale integrated circuits because of its small size and ultralow power consumption. By combining them, we have successfully fabricated an inverter, the most elemental logic circuit for computers, and observed its operation for the first time.
