Access

The workshop site, NTT Atsugi R&D center, is located 50km south-west of Tokyo. The nearest major train station from the workshop site is Hon-Atsugi station on the Odakyu Line. Airport access by Limousine bus is available between Narita or Tokyo(Haneda) International Airport and Hon-Atsugi station.

Because of the limited number of parking spaces on the R&D center, public transportation is highly recommended.

How to get to Atsugi city from Narita Airport

Access from Narita International Airport

a. & c. (by Airport Bus)

This is the easiest transportation to Atsugi city, although it's running about once an hour. Airport bus ticket counter is located at both Terminal 1 and 2, right outside of the immigration exit. There are several bus companies running to various directions. Make sure you choose the bus bound for Sagami-Ono Sagami Ono or Hon-Atsugi Hon-Atsugi . Fare is 3,500(JPY) /one-way and there is a discount fare for round-trip. It usually takes two and a half hours depending on traffic. Keep in mind that there could be enormous traffic jam in Tokyo during evening rush hour. If you get on a bus to Sagami-Ono station, take an Odakyu train from there to Hon-Atsugi station, which is about 15 minute ride and costs 240(JPY). When you get off the bus at Sagami-Ono station, go up the stairs and get in to the station building. When you turn left at the first corner you will see Odakyu-line station. *The bus to the airport needs to make reservation. Please buy the ticket in advance. The ticket center in Hon-Atsugi will open from 9:00 to 19:00.

b. (by Train)

Narita -> (Nippori) -> Shinjuku -> Hon-Atsugi
The easiest way to come to Hon-Atsugi station by train is to take the direct train to Shinjuku Shinjuku called "JR Narita Express (NEX)", which takes 70 minutes and costs 3,110 yen. You can also take "Keisei Keisei Line" too but, you need to transfer at Nippori Nippori station onto JR Yamanote-line Yamanote to Shinjuku. Keisei line costs 1,730 yen with "Sky-liner" Express train. Both NEX and Sky-liner station are in the basement floor and departed from the arriving lobby. Tickets for both trains are available either at the ticket counter on the arrival lobby or vending machine on the basement floor. From Shinjyuku, take an Odakyu line bound for Odawara Odawara station and Hakone-Yumoto Hakone-Yumoto station . You could either take Limited-Express Romance-Car, Romance-car), Rapid Express Kaisoku-Kyuko , kaisoku-kyuko) or Express Kyuko , kyuko). Purchase an Odakyu ticket at a vending machine, the fare is 480(JPY) to Hon-Atsugi Hon-Atsugi station. If you choose to come by Romance-car, the fare is 1,030(JPY) and could get a reserved seat. It is only 10 minutes faster than Express trains, however, provides more space and comfort. Not all the limited-Express make a stop at Hon-Atsugi station, so please check whether your train stops there. Get a reserved seat for Romance-car. Tickets are available until a few minutes before departure as long as seats are available. Odakyu Shinjuku station has two departure-floors: upper for Express train and lower for Local train. Do not take local train Kakueki-Teisha , Kakueki-teisha)since it stops at every station and even waits for express trains passing by. There are also express train that goes to another direction, such as Fujisawa, Enoshima, and karakida Tama-Kyuko , Tama-kyuko). Be extra careful not to take those trains. Please ask people around you to make sure it takes you to the right destination. Express train leaves every 10 minutes from platform 4 and 5, and takes 50 minutes to Hon-Atsugi station. Shinjuku station is one of the largest transit hubs in Tokyo, serving many different train and subway lines. Each has its own separate gate so make sure you make your way toward Odakyu line.

Fare is 1,500(JPY) and it usually takes one hour depending on traffic. Keep in mind that there could be enormous traffic jam in Tokyo during evening rush hour.
The bus to the airport needs to make reservation. Please buy the ticket in advance. The ticket counter in Hon-Atsugi station will open from 9:00 to 19:00.

b.  by Train 

The easiest way to come to Hon-Atsugi station by train is to take the transportation as below. Access from Tokyo International(haneda) airpot

  1. Keikyu Line
    Keikyu Line to Yokohama is about 30 minutes and costs 470(JPY). There are some direct train bound for "Misaki-guchi" which stops at "Yokohama", but most of the train from Haneda airport are bound for other places, so you need to transfer at "Kamata station" onto the one which goes to "Yokohama". There is various train in Keikyu Line, such as Local, Express, Rapid Express, Limited Express, and so on, so you had better ask which is the best to take at the platform.
  2. Sotetsu Line
    From "Yokohama", you have to transfer to Sagami Tetsudo Line called Sotetsu bound for "Ebina". Not all the Sotetsu line will go to "Ebina" so you need to check your destination. It will be about 30 minutes ride and 300(JPY).
  3. Odakyu Line
    From "Ebina", you have to transfer to Odakyu Odawara Line bound for Odawara or Hakone-Yumoto. It will be about 5 minutes ride and 120(JPY).
