Research Area

My research is in the field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and cognitive science.

Gaze-Based Interaction

Gaze interaction, the interaction between human and computer by the user's eye movement, has a potential to realize the seamless and intuitive interactive environment. I'm developing both gaze-controllable interactive systems and eye tracking systems.

Head-Free Gaze Tracking System
The new version of "FreeGaze" is now ready to track the user's head movement. Stereo camera unit detects the the user's eye position, and eye tracking unit moves to follow the user's eye gaze. This system also works with two-point simple calibration.
FreeGaze - easy to use eye tracking system
This system is developed to reduce the effort of personal calibration. It requires only two points for calibration, that reduces the effort of calibration. Once calibration is finished, no further calibration is required. You can use it as soon as you sit in front of the computer.

EyePrint - support of document reusing with eye gaze trace.
EyePrint, a trace generated from user's eye movement pattern, helps the user find the visited area of the document with hilighted background. Zooming and keyword search also works with EyePrint.
Eye Window Manager
EWM - Gaze controllable window manager
You don't have to use mouse or keyboard to change the focus of multiple windows.
QGSM
Quick Glance Selection Method - Fast menu selection with eye
QGSM enables the user to select the menu within half second. There is a selection area, and as soon as you see the area, the item is selected.
EMR-NC - an eye tracking system with no head restriction
We developed a head free eye tracking system in cooperation with NAC Inc. Please see EMR-NC information for detail.
