Imaging of Zero-dimensional States in a Semiconductor NanostructureUtilization of the quantum mechanical wave phenomena in nanostructures is important for developing quantum devices and quantum computers. We have imaged the local density of states (LDOS) of zero-dimensionally confined electron waves by using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) at low temperatures. It is found that the LDOS distribution of a semiconductor nanostructure coincides with the probability distribution of electrons in a zero-dimensional structure (a quantum dot).
