Magnet-optic Trap (MOT) of alkari atoms


Now that laser cooling of particular species of neutral atoms is not a special technique. Cs and Rb atoms have cooled and trapped here in NTT. The following figure is an example of the fluorescence image from the trapped Cs atoms. The temperature is about 100 micro kelvin. It is less than the doppler cooling limit of Cs atoms (127 micro kelvin).
